On Friday 11th May 2012, pupils in Year 11 were involved in the BBC’s first Schools Questions & Answers live webcast. The event followed a similar format to Question Time on BBC One with BBC Newsnight presenter Kirsty Wark chairing the event. At 12 noon, the webcast streamed live online from the host school, Cardinal Heenan Catholic High School in Leeds and pupils from St Killian’s College linked up with hundreds of schools from across the UK to watch the debate live online and take part in the debate. Alongside questions from the audience in Leeds, St Killian’s pupils were able to submit opinions on the unfolding debate through an interactive live blog on the BBC website. Four pupils, Nicky McToal, Aaron Callaghan, Conan Harvey and Cormac Glenn had their comments posted by the BBC on the programme’s discussion board. Also, one of Conan Harvey’s comments was read out to the panel and audience in Leeds, during the live programme.
