St Killian’s Year 8 camogie team almost make it

St Killian's

St Killian’s 5-3 St Catherine’s Armagh 6-1

St Killian’s came up just a point short in an excellent Year 8 camogie final in Magherafelt yesterday.

Good starts to both halves were the key to St Catherine’s Armagh’s victory. Despite playing against the breeze St Catherine’s took the lead with early goals from Hannah Devlin and Catherine Muldoon.  Ellen Leech settled St Killian’s with a point and, although Catherine Muldoon hit back with a goal, Méabh Allen with a hat-trick sent St Killian’s in with an interval lead of 3-1 to 3-0.

St Catherine’s now had the breeze and three quick goals on the re-start from Emer Rooney, Emma Muldoon and Amy Morton looked to have killed the game.  However St Killian’s hit back with 2 goals from Ellen Leech and 2 points from Méabh Allen.  A point from Catherine Muldoon in the middle of that however proved invaluable as it was the difference between the teams at the final whistle.

Considering that only 8 of the team had experience of club camogie, it was a tremendous achievement to reach a final, but still disappointing to miss out by such a small margin.  Mr McAleenan said he was proud of their effort and improvement during the competition and he hoped that they would all enjoy their camogie at higher age-groups through the school.
