Year 8 camogie team excel in Ballycastle

Year 8 camogie team - first time wearing St Killian's camogie top

St Killian’s year 8 camogie really contested the Blitz in Ballycastle today (Friday 22nd November).

Only the schools in Grade A camogie were invited and St Killian’s started the competition by scoring an opening goal against St Patrick’s Maghera.  Maghera scored a point but could not break the St Killian’s defence down at all.  Half way through the second half, they eventually forced a mistake in the full-back line and 2 goals were conceded in the last 2 minutes of play.

Mr McAleenan was not too disappointed however because of the commitment that the girls were showing and he was not at all surprised when they defeated St Mary’s Magherafelt by 3 clear goals in the second game.  Caoimhe O’Hara scored a goal from a free and Shauna McDonnell scored a hat-trick of goals in this game.

Next came St Louis and this game proved very tight.  St Killian’s dominated play but only clinched the victory with a goal from Caoimhe O’Hara near the end of the game.

Our final game was against Cross & Passion and, like the St Louis game, we totally dominated the play, but were unlucky with our shots on the goal.  In injury time, CPC broke upfield to score a point, only their second attack in the whole game – and they went through to the final.

However, Mr McAleenan was really pleased with the application shown by all the girls and is looking forward to working with them in the spring-time.
