Last night saw St Killian’s College Golf team win the School Team of the Year at the Larne Borough Council Sports’ Awards’ Presentation Evening. Marc McKinstry (L6) capped a good evening for the Golfers and the school by being named Junior Sports Performer of Year. The awards were presented by Paralympian gold medalist Michael McKillop who is pictured with the boys at the event.
Our golfers have enjoyed fantastic success last year and this, winning the inaugural Ulster Schools’ Scratch Championship at Halloween 2013 and then defending it in 2014.
In between they also won the Ulster Schools’ Senior Matchplay title this time last year.
Marc McKinstry was a key part of all that success, eventually captaining the team to success in the absence of his injured brother Neil. Marc also enjoyed a huge amount of success with his club, Ulster and with Ireland under-age squads. Recently he was awarded the Ulster under 19 Order of Merit, even though he is just turned 17.
Marc will represent Ireland later this month in an International event against France. He was an easy choice for Junior Sports Performer of Year in Larne Borough.
