Following on from last week’s excellent A level results the GCSE students at St Killian’s have proven that the future of education in the Glens and East Antrim is very bright with first class exam results across the board.
This year 70% of students attained A*/B grades. However the most significant statistic is that 75% of students achieved 7+ GCSEs at A*-C including English and Maths. This year, 19 students achieved an impressive 10 A/A* grades while another 23 achieved 9 A*/A grades.
Indeed, within this group, three students deserve a special mention. Hannah Craig, Christina McCambridge and Liam Walsh all achieved an impressive 10 A* at GCSE. Each of these students achieved across a range of subjects including English Literature, DA Science and Further Mathematics.
Principal Mr Jonny Brady expressed his delight with another outstanding set of results at St Killian’s which will undoubtedly provide our GCSE students with greater opportunity and choice to progress to post 16 or make them more attractive to employers, which is so important in this increasingly competitive world.
“We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all our students on their superb results and we are looking forward to ensuring their future success when they return at post 16. This outstanding set of results is down to the commitment, dedication and hard work of our students and staff, as well as the support and partnership that the school continues to develop and enjoy from our parents. The whole college community should be rightly proud.
Most encouraging was the fact that the majority of our young people reached their potential with the help of a caring, dedicated and professional staff. Together we ensured, through our extensive revision programme, that all students had the opportunity to access our teachers in the period prior to their exams. One of the continuing success stories of St Killian’s is the college’s mentoring system which supports all students.
St Killian’s students, without exception, outperformed their predicted results by achieving up to 4 additional GCSE passes. This reinforces the highly successful Education and Training Inspectorate Report which noted that, ‘GCSE results are outstanding as a result of well-focused support which ensures that students make good progress and achieve their full potential’.
Of the 140 students who sat their GCSEs, 74% achieved 7 A* – C grades, while 85% achieved 5 A* – Cs. However, a significant statistic is that 75% of our students attained these grades including English and Maths A*- C. These excellent grades represent a significant rise from last year and unsurprisingly are well above the N.I. average.
It is truly fantastic that this group of students has achieved so well and added to the continued success of students in St Killian’s College. Again these excellent and high quality outcomes are a testament to all who contribute to the success that is down to our students, staff and parents.
On behalf of the Governors and Staff, I congratulate our students on these excellent results and thank parents for their continued support”.
