Leisure and Tourism (Single Award)

The Course Involves:

• investigating how the leisure and tourism industries meet the needs of their

customers;

• understanding the part played by leisure and tourism in society;

• applying your learning in a practical and realistic way.

 

OUTLINE OF THE COURSE

 

Unit 1: Investigating Leisure and Tourism                           40%

 

This is based on an examination set and marked by CCEA.

• investigating the importance of leisure and tourism in today’s society,

• enquiring about the variety of activities people enjoy in leisure and tourism,

• investigating facilities such theme parks, travel agents and airlines;

 

Unit 2: Marketing in Leisure and Tourism                          20%

 

This is based on work presented in a portfolio and marked by your teachers.

• investigating the importance of marketing in the leisure and tourism industries,

• examining promotional materials in leisure and tourism,

• producing an item of promotional material;

 

Unit 3: Customer Service in Leisure and Tourism               20%

 

This is based on work presented in a portfolio and marked by your teachers.

• investigating the importance of customer service in keeping existing customers

and attracting new ones in leisure and tourism,

• meeting the different needs of customers,

• handling difficult customers and complaints.

 

Unit 4: Leisure & Tourism Destinations                                          20%

 

This is based on work presented in a portfolio and marked by your teachers.

  • Investigate where people go and why they go to certain destinations
  • Understand the impact tourism has on people and the environment

 

CAREER IMPLICATIONS

 

The GCSE in Leisure and Tourism (Single Award) has been designed to provide

a broad educational basis for either further training, further education or for

moving into employment mainly within the leisure and tourism sector.

 

N.B.    This subject would not be suitable for those students wishing to study Geography for A Level.
