Congratulations to St Killian’s College on being one of 15 schools announced as getting a new build by the Minister of Education on Tuesday 24th June.

St Killian’s College, Garron Tower is one of five post primary schools which will benefit from the Minister’s announcement regarding new Major Capital Works Projects.

This investment in the college is in recognition of the High Quality of Learning and Teaching endorsed by the ETI in last November’s report. The new build will ensure that all students at St Killian’s will receive a first class education long into the future.

This significant investment in the college reinforces both the commitment and high priority that both the Trustees and the Department of Education have placed in St Killian’s in ensuring it remains the flagship school for all ability Catholic education. There is no doubt that these new and modern facilities will benefit the whole community and cement furtherthe already strong links established with the college.

Principal Jonny Brady said, ‘This is another great news story for the college which is continuing to develop both in reputation and in student numbers. Obviously this investment echoes this growth. There is no doubt that the additional investment will make the college the most modern school in the area as well as the most stylish.’

As one of our parents has commented, ‘I am a parent of three children who attend the school and this is a fantastic boost for the whole school community and the enhancement of the facilities will undoubtedly reinforce the excellent opportunities that the school already offers to children of all abilities.’

John O’Dowd provided an update on his capital programme and named the schools which are to benefit. The Minister said: “All across the north there are a range of schools which are in dire need of investment. Unfortunately that need far exceeds the funding available. Therefore the schools benefiting today represent the highest priority projects which have successfully come through a rigorous selection process.’
