This week sees the launch of the Accelerated Reader programme for our Year 8 pupils. This will be the second year of the highly successful project which was implemented by Mrs Furey and co-ordinated by our school librarian Mrs Ashley. Mr Brady paid a welcomed visit to the library this week to announce further investment in our book stock. This provides our pupils with a fantastic range of books which will challenge readers of all abilities.
Mr Brady has purchased the Accelerated Reader licence for a further three years. ‘Accelerated Reader’ has been a huge success in encouraging all of our young people to read for enjoyment and fun. There is no doubt that Accelerated Reader has raised students’ excitement about reading and more importantly has had a significant impact on their literacy at all levels from writing to comprehension. Indeed our library is one of the most popular places in the college and is full of young people reading a range of books.’
This year will also see our college introduce, once again, the Paired Reading programme for our current Year 8 pupils. The ever growing culture of mentoring is encouraged throughout the college from pupils right through to staff. Our Year 13s will be trained in delivering Paired Reading across the school and will form a significant part of our Whole School Literacy approach this year.
