On Friday night our sports’ stars were split between the Larne Sports’ Awards’ DInner in the McArthur Theatre in Larne Leisure Centre and the All-star Camogie Dinner in the Elk Restaurant in Toome, where the All-star camogie team received their awards.
In Larne St Killian’s dominated the shortlist for school performance of 2015 with the Senior Golf team, Senior and Under 14 camogie teams and MacNamee Hurling teams all in the running. The judges plumped, for the second year running, for the Senior Golf team and Mark McKinstry and Fergus McCambridge received the award on stage from Billy Ashe, Mayor of Mid and East Antrim Council. They were then interviewed by Denise Watson from UTV Sport who was compere for the evening.
Mr McAleenan was also nominated for coach of the year, but that award went to Gary Haveron (Carrick Rangers), who collected three Cups and promotion last season.
Over in the Elk, Laoise McKenna and Dervla Cosgrove received their All-star camogie awards. It was Dervla’s second award in succession and she was chosen to speak on behalf of the team after the players received their awards. Her speech, like her performances on the pitch throughout the year, was first class.
