St Killian’s enjoys another set of outstanding GCSE results

Following on from last week’s phenomenal A level results, the GCSE students at St Killian’s have proven that the future of education in the Glens and East Antrim is very bright. This year we are proud that 70% of our students achieved 7+ GCSEs at A*-C including English and Maths with 60% of students attaining A* – B grades.

Our top achievers include Rachael McLaughlin 9A* 1 A, Stephen Emerson and Cara Kilgore 8A* 2 As, Maria McKenna 7A* 3As, Hannah Magill, Annie McSparron and Chloe Mitchell 6A* 4As, Orla Irvine and Clodagh Kinney 4A* 5As, Annie Atcheson and Courtney Austin 2A*7As and Fintan Leech 1A* 9As.

However, pride of place goes to our twin sisters Aine and Emer Quinn who achieved an impressive 10 A* each. The two sisters are committed camogs playing in both the school teams and their own Ruairi Ogs Cushendall. Their love for Irish culture is further reinforced by the fact that they enjoy playing Irish music. Aine and Emer intend to study Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and Technology and Design for A Level and with this very strong foundation at GCSE the sky is the limit for their ambitions.

One of the continuing success stories of St Killian’s is the college’s mentoring system which supports students in reaching their full potential. As a result, many students outperformed their predicted results by achieving up to 4 additional GCSE passes.
This outstanding set of results is down to the commitment and hard work of our students and the dedication of our staff, as well as the support and partnership that the school continues to enjoy with our parents. Our students now have greater opportunity and choice to progress to post 16 and are equipped with the skills sought by employers, which is so important in this increasingly competitive world.
Principal Mr Jonny Brady expressed his delight with another excellent set of results at St Killian’s.
“The results have, once again, been outstanding. However, for me the most significant statistic is that 70% of our students attained these grades including English and Maths A*-C. 80% of students attaining A*-C grades. These grades represent a significant success for our students and unsurprisingly are well above the N.I. average. This group of students have achieved so well and add to the continued success of St Killian’s.

On behalf of the college I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate our students on their excellent achievements and I am looking forward to ensuring their future success when they return at post 16.”
